My Husband, Mark, and I are the VERY proud parents of rescued Greyhounds. Our first, a boy named JB, came to us in August of 2000. JB is one of the tallest and most muscular Greyhound that you’ll ever see (not to mention that he’s pretty darn cute as well!!!!!), weighing in at 98 pounds! We decided to add to our family, so in February of 2001 we adopted Wave who was the most beautiful Greyhound that I ever set eyes on. Wavey was caramel in color with blue stripes and a powder sugar face. Because of our Wave, Mark and I became very aware of animal nutrition and the evils of the pet food industry. Wavey was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in the spring of 2003 and was called back home to heaven September 16, 2003.
Before Wavey was called home to run free with the Angels, we added a third Greyhound to our family. Our new daughter, Frannie Bean, is something else! She would play 24 hours a day if we would let her. Play, play, play, eat, play, potty break, play, play, eat, potty beak, play, play, play, eat, potty break, back massage to put her to sleep – that’s a normal day in the life of Frannie Bean! Our Beanie is very pretty. She’s solid blue in color with white markings on her chest, feet and tip of her tail.
Mark, Wave and I made more trips to the Purdue Animal Hospital
(a place where miracles REALLY DO happen) more times that I can remember.
During our time there we were made aware of animal nutrition by the staff
at the vet hospital and by our second family which is made up of people that
have dedicated their lives to stop the cruel sport of Greyhound racing and
to find forever homes for these voiceless animals. Wave’s cancer is
what made me start cooking and baking for my dogs. Prior to this point, I
thought that we were feeding them the best dog food on the market, Lord knows
that it sure was the highest priced! For months, I shared all my biscuits
and treats with family members and friends that had dogs. I never received
ANY negative feed-back! Then my family members and friends were telling others
about my dog treats and before I knew it, people were calling me asking where
they could be purchased. Because of the numerous requests, I decided to sell
them nation wide via the internet and sell them locally. A portion of the
profits from the internet sales will be donated to All Star Greyhounds (formerly
Greyhound Pets of America/ Lafayette, Indiana Chapter, Schererville, Indiana
Animal Control, and the Humane Society.
